Going on a vacation? Planning for that vacation is part of the fun. Packing for that vacation is the part of the planning stage that I love.Ok, I was once a girl guide. The motto, Be Prepared still sticks with me. To be prepared for anything. On vacation, I often pull out from my bag all sorts of things when necessary. I used to carry a swiss knife with me as it is so handy, until I got sick of setting of alarms at airports and having to submit to body checks, just because of that swiss knife in my bag.#1 Roll your clothes Your luggage can only pack in so many things. How are you going to pack your clothes, your kids clothes and your other travel essentials into that one bag? How do you get your clothes in without too many ugly wrinkles. Fold each item lengthwise, then roll it tightly. Pack in the large items first, then stick the smaller rolls into the empty spaces. Pack in the sock (also rolled into little balls) last as these can fit into the smallest spaces in your luggage. Oh, and stick to fabrics that don’t wrinkle easily. Cotton polyester mix is great for a warm vacation while wool is great for a cold vacation.

#2 Bring along some detergent Your kids are going to run, play, sweat, get dirty over and over again during the vacation. At least that’s what mine do anyway. Every family vacation calls for a bag of detergent. When I can find detergent bars, I’ll bring those along, packing them in only when dry, to avoid messing up my luggage. When I can’t find detergent bars, detergent powder would have to do. Either way, every night after we get back to the hotel, if we are going to stay in that same hotel for more than 1 night in a row, I’d wash everyone’s clothes and dry them before I go to sleep. That way, we do not run out of clean clothes halfway through the vacation. After washing the clothes, I’d wring them as dry as possible and hang them up to dry. To make them dry faster, I’d drape them over the lamp shades and leave the lamps on when we go out. The heat from the lamps would dry the clothes faster than normal. Be careful you don’t burn the clothes though. Keep the clothes off the bulbs.

#3 Bring a tiny light What I find handy is a tiny little torchlight. I use that to find my child’s lost toy in the dark. On holiday, that mini torch is very useful at night. I even carry one in my purse when I go to the movies. We lost the car keys before and I used the mini torch to help me find them again. When it is dark, light the way with your torch. When the children are bored, you can entertain them with your mini light and fan. Blow a paper toy you fold with the fan. Tell stories with shadows cast by that light at night.

#4 Bring non spillables where possible Ever opened your luggage only to find that your lotion bottle exploded? Happened to me a couple of times. Everything in the suitcase is all messed up. A rotten way to start a vacation if you ask me. Instead, use single dose skin care, bring along solid lotion for your body and bar soap to bathe with. If you can find a shampoo bar that would be great. At least these wouldn’t mess up your bag. Dry them before you pack them into their containers or plastic bag and then put them in your luggage.

#5 Bring your camera. You would want to capture the happy moments on your vacation. If you are going to the beach, bring along a water proof camera. If you can, bring along a digital camcorder so you can capture your vacation in motion and even turn that into a home movie.

The place is hard to miss because it is the most conspicuous 8-storey building along Naguilian Rd. During normal traffic, you can reach INNSISON ithin 3-5 minutes from the Baguio City Hall.

As an alternative and perhaps the easiest, you can reach the place thru a taxi. Advise the driver to drop you off at Naguilian Rd cor Dominican Rd immediately after the Baguio City Welcome Arch. Baguio City taxi drivers know the place very well.

Happy Birthday Enrico Sison http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/08/04/happybirthday-enrico-sison/ http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/08/04/happybirthday-enrico-sison/#comments Fri, 04 Aug 2006 17:15:17 +0000 Administrator http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/08/04/happybirthday-enrico-sison/ It didn’t seem too long ago. My wife didn’t want to have another baby after Sonya, our second child. I wanted another child but I didn’t insist. I understood the hardships of a woman getting pregnant. We resorted to natural birth control methods, rhythm method in particular, as far as I can remember. At some point she wondered why she was still not having her menstruation. I thought maybe it was just delayed as I was sure we followed very closely the “rules” to avoid getting pregnant.

One day, while we were shopping somewhere in Mabini St., she noticed a clinic doing pregnancy test. She decided to have a test. I was very confident she wasn’t so I just stayed outside looking at the items on the display windows of the nearby shops. 15 minutes or so later, she came out of the clinic. She didn’t look too happy then she said “POSITIVE”. I was surprised but I was actually happy but I didn’t show it because she will suspect that I “cheated” her during one of our “encounters”.

Eight months or so later, on the 4th of August she gave birth to baby boy Enrico. Enrico was born with a light complexion much like Florence. He was a strong boy although physically he looked light. He always let his mom carry him wherever the mom went.
In just a few months, Enrico travelled from Baguio to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Well not by himself… Floy, Florence and Sonya along with baby Enrico went back to Riyadh to join me.
Enrico grew up in Riyadh. He grew up as a fine kid. During his time, there were many Filipino families in the building where we lived so he got to see, played and partied with a lot of kids.

After a few years, he entered a Filipino school called Nour Al Maref International school along with his sisters Sonya and Florence.
When Florence graduated from elementary, it was decided that Florence continue her studies in Baguio so they had to go back to Baguio. In Baguio, he continued his studies at Small World where he gained more friends, both boys and girls. Hmmm… Now in Grade IV, we decided to transfer him at Berkley school. He loves Math and sports. He recently joined Speech and Drama. According to him, he joined because he likes doing commentary…whatever that means.
Enrico has grown to be a smart kid. Like the kids his generation, he loves playing Gameboy, Playstation and computer games.
Too bad, I can’t join him this day as I’m still in Riyadh. I’m just happy that he is fine.

Enrico, Happy Birthday from your mom and dad.

BAGUIO TRANSIENT HOUSES http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/08/04/baguio-transient-houses/ http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/08/04/baguio-transient-houses/#comments Fri, 04 Aug 2006 12:02:45 +0000 Administrator http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/08/04/baguio-transient-houses/ INNSISON Apartelles, the better alternative to Baguio transient houses, hotels or inns

Many people who come to Baguio especially big groups usually look for a transient house instead of a Baguio hotel or an inn. There is the common notion that renting a Baguio transient house is cheap and “everything is there” meaning all that are needed are available. There are many houses rented out as transient house in Baguio City. These are usually rented out to take advantage of the influx of tourists coming to the city especially during summer. In many cases, such houses are not intended and designed as vacation houses and therefore, these houses may not be well-maintained and unprepared for tourists, transients or vacationists.

Undeniably, there are decent Baguio transient houses that are cheap and perhaps can provide everything that is needed. However, there are those who just want to make a fast buck where comfort, convenience and safety may be sacrificed. Cleanliness and presence of undesirable creatures are possible issues. Uninterrupted water supply may not be guaranteed and there may be no hot shower available. It’s hard to imagine taking a bath in Baguio without hot shower.

INNSISON addresses all such potential issues of Baguio transient houses. Comfort, convenience and safety, while maintaining affordable rates, are major goals of INNSISON Apartelles. Apart from what were already mentioned, there are many more advantages.

Groups looking for Baguio transient houses are usually big in number. It is not very uncommon to see such groups numbering in the dozen or even more. INNSISON has units that can accommodate groups of 12 or more persons. These units can prove to be very economical especially for those groups who are big in number yet very tight on the budget.

Concern on safety is another major consideration at INNSISON. The building is installed with modern fire alarm system and sprinkler system in compliance with the fire safety code.

INNSISON has sufficient parking space. You don’t have to park along the street and be a traffic hazard.

Water supply is continuous even during summer. INNSISON has its own commercial deep well assuring year-round supply of water. This cannot be said of many Baguio City transient houses.

Unlimited access to the internet is absolutely free for guests at INNSISON. You can access internet by using your WIFI-enabled laptops in the lobby area or the first basement. And yet again, it is unlikely that internet access is available in the typical Baguio transient houses, not to mention unlimited access.

A guard is put on overnight duty to ensure peace and order within the premises. And if that’s not enough, the police checkpoint is just about 250 meters away.

Many of INNSISON Apartelles units have their own kitchens just like other Baguio transient houses. If cooking is desired, INNSISON provides basic cooking facilities. Baguio City prides itself in providing fresh yet cheap vegetables year round. Would it not be a good idea to cook your own specialty using very well known Baguio vegetables?

It’s puzzling how a single search engine will give different results for a search keyphrase on two different PCs. Well, we have different geographical locations. Would that make a difference? I’m not sure. I just think that they should have similar results regardless of your location.
It wouldn’t have been too puzzling had the difference in results were just mild. But get this: www.innsisonbaguio.com was on page 26 (arghhh) in Google in my PC but nowhere on Floy’s PC (more arghhh)! In Yahoo, www.innsisonbaguio.com was on #20 on my PC but #60 on Floy’s.

Oh well….

First Post http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/07/31/first-post/ http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/07/31/first-post/#comments Mon, 31 Jul 2006 22:05:08 +0000 Administrator http://pinescity.com/blog/2006/07/31/first-post/ Whoa!!!

I finally made it to this stage….write my first blog using WordPress. Not even sure what to write. Anyway, I’ll just keep on typing what comes to mind.

To be honest, I have an ulterior motive why I started this blog. I thought by doing so, it will increase backlinks to my websites (http://www.innsison.com, http://www.pinescity.com and http://www.innsisonbaguio.com) and therefore improve their corresponding pageranks. I read in one of the Isulong Seoph websites that many of the entries of the Isulong Seoph contest are capitalizing on blogs and forums to create backlinks. So I’ll give it a shot too.
Reading thru the articles and the documentation at the WordPress website, the installation looked pretty scary. Good thing, Yahoo made it easy for me.
